Wisconsin’s registered nurse shortage is expected to get worse before it gets better. The increasing need for nurse instructors and educators has left caused a deficit in the ability to graduate new nurses. Registered nurse salaries in Wisconsin range from $60,000 to $65,000 in the larger cities of Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay.

The largest four RN employers in the state all have around 5,000 employees: Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, River Woods Urgent Care Clinic in Milwaukee; UW Health Hospitals & Clinics in Madison and UW Health in Madison. Affinity Health System in Menasha has 4,300 employees while Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse has 4,000 employees. Four other hospitals around the state all employ between 3,000 and 3,500.
